Politics of convenience dominates Ghana - Prof. Gyampo

The CEO of the Ghana Shippers Authority, Professor Ransford Gyampo, has criticized Ghana's political scene. He claims politicians are motivated by self-interest rather than national concern.

In a Facebook post on June 7, he expressed disappointment in "politics of convenience." He believes insincere individuals prioritize personal gain over the country's interests.

Prof. Gyampo highlighted selective outrage among politicians. He referenced recent demonstrations by the Minority Caucus in Parliament. They demanded the release of NPP's Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, who faces fraud charges.

He questioned why there is silence about Ken Ofori-Atta while demonstrating for Wontumi. Ofori-Atta, the former Finance Minister, is on INTERPOL's Red Alert list for alleged corruption.

According to INTERPOL's website, Ofori-Atta is "Wanted" for misusing his public office. This follows a declaration from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP). They re-designated him as wanted after he missed an interrogation on June 2.

The OSP is working to issue an Interpol Red Notice for Ofori-Atta. Extradition proceedings are underway to bring him back to Ghana. He is under investigation for several high-profile cases involving financial irregularities.

These include issues with Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited and the Ghana Revenue Authority regarding petroleum revenue assurance. Additionally, he faces allegations related to a contract termination with Beijing Xiao Cheng Technology (BXC).

Ofori-Atta is also being investigated for suspected corruption in a Ministry of Health contract with Service Ghana Auto Group Limited. This contract involved purchasing and maintaining ambulances and mismanagement of funds from GRA’s Tax P-Fund Account.

The Red Notice will help international law enforcement track and apprehend Ofori-Atta.
