Mussa Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, spoke about a recent poll. This poll concerns Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. He stated that the poll will not affect her legal process.
Dankwah emphasized that judicial decisions must remain independent of public opinion. He warned against allowing public sentiment to influence legal outcomes. Doing so would harm the country’s justice system.
He explained on Citi FM's Eyewitness News that public opinion should not matter in law. Decision-makers must not follow public opinion; it is a disservice to the nation.
While polling organizations like Global InfoAnalytics gauge public sentiment, their findings have limits. "Public opinion is just that," he said. Polling results should not be overstated beyond their intended purpose.
The recent poll has sparked national debate. It showed that most Ghanaians support removing the Chief Justice. Conducted from April 7 to April 16, 2025, it surveyed 2,545 voters across all 16 regions.
The results indicated that 52% favor her removal while 20% oppose it. Additionally, 18% are neutral and 10% are undecided. When asked about evidence of misconduct, 30% of those neutral or opposed might support her removal. However, 35% would still resist this move.
