Pope Francis’ papal apartment sealed

Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Archbishop Edgar Peña Parra have sealed the doors of the papal apartment. This includes the door to the Casa Santa Marta apartment where Pope Francis lived.

Pope Francis' death was announced on Easter Monday, April 21. The rite for certifying his death took place that evening at 8:00 PM. It occurred in the chapel of Casa Santa Marta.

During this rite, the declaration of death was read aloud. Cardinal Farrell, Camerlengo of the Holy Roman Church, validated the act. The ceremony lasted just under an hour.

The first General Congregation of Cardinals will be on Tuesday morning, April 22. During this meeting, they may decide on a date for Pope Francis' funeral.
