In his address to the faithful in St Peter's Square, Pope Francis called on world leaders from wealthy nations to cancel or reduce the debts of poorer countries in light of the Vatican's 2025 Jubilee Year.
He emphasized that the Jubilee should extend to the social level, ensuring that no person, family, or nation is burdened by debt.
The Pope urged leaders of Christian nations to lead by example in this regard. In addition to debt relief, he also prayed for an end to global conflicts, particularly in Ukraine, Gaza, Israel, Myanmar, and Kivu.
Furthermore, during the New Year’s Day mass, Francis reiterated his stance against abortion, which had recently sparked controversy in Belgium.
