**Court Sentences Porter for Motorbike Theft**
A 32-year-old porter, Ali Amidu, has been sentenced to 39 months in prison. The Circuit Court at Dansoman near Accra issued the sentence for stealing a motorbike worth GH¢14,500.
Judge Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit imposed 15 months for conspiracy and 24 months for theft. The sentences will run concurrently. Amidu pleaded guilty to both charges under the Criminal Offences Act of 1960.
Two accomplices, Nabiru Yashawu and Awudu, are still at large.
**Details of the Crime**
On February 27, 2025, Ransford Owusu Afriyie reported his motorbike stolen. He is an Okada rider living near Shukura Market. At about 3:00 AM, Amidu and Yashawu took his black Royal 150 motorbike from his compound.
They later sold it at Agbogbloshie for GH¢4,000 to Awudu. Afriyie and four others caught Amidu and turned him over to the Shukura Police.
During police questioning, Amidu confessed and named Yashawu as his accomplice. However, he did not help locate either Yashawu or Awudu.
**Court’s Decision**
The court found Amidu guilty based on his confession and evidence presented. Although the motorbike was sold for much less than its value, he could not assist in recovering it or finding the other suspects. The case remains open as police continue searching for Yashawu and Awudu.
