A 21-year-old porter has been sentenced for stealing a vehicle. The vehicle was valued at GH¢40,000. This occurred at the Dansoman District Court in Greater Accra.
Denis Boateng pleaded guilty to the theft charge. He was convicted and sentenced on April 28. Her Honour Halimah El-Alawa Abdul-Baasit presided over the case. Chief Inspector Kwadwo Aboagye led the prosecution.
Boateng was charged under Section 124(1) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The complainant, Okai Ernest, is a driver from Dansoman. He had given his Hyundai Grace vehicle to Wisdom Frimpong for commercial use.
On December 3, 2024, the vehicle broke down and was parked at a station. When Ernest returned on December 5 with a mechanic, it was missing. He reported the theft to police on April 8, 2025.
Boateng was identified by informants and arrested at Darkuman Police Station. He was later transferred to Kaneshie Police Station for identification. The complainant recognized him as the suspect.
In his caution statement, Boateng confessed to stealing the vehicle. He sold it to a scrap dealer for GH¢2,000 in Darkuman Cable Wireless. Efforts to find this dealer were unsuccessful.
After reviewing all evidence and Boateng's confession, the court made its decision.
