Power has not yet been restored to Amakye Bare. This is in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality of the Ashanti Region. A heavy rainstorm months ago destroyed structures and downed electricity poles. As a result, power supply was cut off.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) is working on the issue. The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) is also involved. They want to speed up the restoration process for the community.
On April 25, during a media event, Richard Asiedu spoke about this situation. He is the Regional Public Relations Officer for PURC. He mentioned that they have been in contact with ECG since the incident occurred.
ECG has assessed the damage and submitted a funding report. Mr. Asiedu assured everyone that they are committed to restoring power soon. "As we speak, power has not been released," he said.
He hopes that Amakye Bare will have power restored shortly. Complaints against ECG and Ghana Water Limited (GWL) are increasing, according to Mr. Asiedu. Service quality concerns are at the top of these complaints.
In the first quarter of 2025, there were 422 complaints received by PURC. Of these, 397 were against ECG and 25 against GWL. They resolved 377 complaints, which is about 89%.
Mr. Asiedu noted that PURC retrieved GH¢52,129 from utility companies as refunds for customers' complaints. Additionally, they recovered GH¢108,371 from regulated utilities as revenue.
They also retrieved GH¢6,000 from road construction companies for damages to GWL's infrastructure. The Commission encourages everyone to report utility-related issues promptly.
They remain dedicated to addressing concerns and improving service delivery.
