The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has issued a warning. They are concerned about prank callers abusing emergency lines. This practice endangers lives of those who need help.
During an interview on Channel One TV, ADO I Derrick Elorm Adzokpa expressed frustration. He said, “The prank calls are killing us.” False alarms tie up critical lines and delay responses.
In the first quarter of 2025, prank calls dropped by 31.52%. Adzokpa attributed this improvement to increased public education. However, the issue remains serious.
He explained the danger: “When you call 112 or 192 and it’s busy, someone else is on the line.” That could be a prank call. It may deny someone real help when they need it urgently.
Adzokpa urged people to use alternative emergency lines if needed. These numbers are 0302 772 446 and 0299 340 383. He assured that these hotlines are monitored for quick connection to dispatchers.
He reiterated the GNFS’s appeal for responsible behavior. “Even one prank call can cost lives,” he emphasized. Adzokpa called on Ghanaians to reserve emergency lines for real crises only.
