Prank calls are killing us – GNFS

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is worried about prank calls. These calls hinder effective emergency responses.

On May 9, ADO 1 Derrick Elorm Adzokpa spoke on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily. He expressed frustration over the misuse of emergency lines. Despite some improvements, he said, “The prank calls are killing us.”

Adzokpa noted a decline in prank calls this year. They dropped by 31.52% in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 2024. He credited this improvement to better public education and awareness.

He stated, “People are now understanding the effects and implications of these calls.” However, prank calls still pose a serious problem. They can block access for those needing real help.

He explained that if someone cannot reach emergency services, it may be due to a prank call. This could deny urgent assistance to someone in need.

To help mitigate this issue, he urged the public to use alternative contact numbers when main lines are busy. The alternative hotlines are: 0302772446 and 0299340383.

The GNFS continues to advocate for responsible use of emergency services. They warn that even one prank call can cost lives.
