Three students from Ghana won top prizes in the 2024 WAEC International Excellence Award. They were joined by a student from Liberia.

The awardees are David Nii Commey Ankrah, Henschel Tabi Frempong-Manso, and Benedict Ofori Debrah. David shared first place with the Liberian student. Henschel and Benedict secured second and third places, respectively.

These students were among over 1 million candidates in the 2024 WASSCE. The exam took place across The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.

The announcement occurred during WAEC's 73rd Annual Council Meeting. This meeting was held from March 17 to 21, 2025, in Monrovia. It celebrated the region’s top academic achievers.

Benedict Ofori Debrah earned A1 grades in all eight subjects. He ranked among the top three out of 2,455,063 candidates across five countries. He is currently studying for a BSc in Human Biology at KNUST.

Benedict attended Presbyterian Boys' Secondary School. He was honored alongside second-place winner Henschel Tabi Frempong-Manso from Kade Senior High Technical School. Henschel also achieved straight A1s and now studies at KNUST.

The awards recognize outstanding achievement in the WASSCE. This is a significant milestone for students in West Africa.

Now enrolled at KNUST, Debrah focuses on his future in human biology. The university is known for attracting bright minds from the region.
