National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has issued a strong ultimatum to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, demanding the voluntary surrender of Rev. John Ntim Fordjour to the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) by 10:00 a.m. today, April 10.
Rev. Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South, is at the centre of a National Security investigation involving allegations of suspicious aircraft activity at Kotoka International Airport, with potential links to drug trafficking and money laundering.
A failed attempt to arrest him on Wednesday was suspended after an intervention by Afenyo-Markin, who reportedly assured authorities that Fordjour would report voluntarily.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s Breakfast Daily, Vanderpuye reminded the Minority Leader of an earlier agreement between him and government officials that any MP wanted by the NIB would cooperate voluntarily.
“Somebody must advise Ntim Fordjour. I am giving Afenyo-Markin that opportunity today,” Vanderpuye said. “If the Minority Leader does not present him by 10:00 a.m., we shall plug him from his house.”
Vanderpuye also criticised Minority MPs who showed up at Fordjour’s residence during the attempted arrest, calling their conduct “unruly” and “disrespectful” toward state security agencies. He emphasized that police can carry out arrests without warrants and warned that continued defiance would not be tolerated.
The standoff has added political tension to an already controversial investigation, as questions grow over the nature of the allegations and the handling of the operation by National Security.
