Presidency's decision on Sammy Gyamfi gifting saga baseless - Haruna Mohammed

The Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Haruna Mohammed, criticized the government's response to Sammy Gyamfi's controversy. He called the official action inadequate and lacking legitimacy.

Mr. Mohammed reacted to a decision by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah. The government issued a formal caution to Mr. Gyamfi after public backlash over a cash gift.

Mr. Gyamfi appeared in a viral video giving dollar notes to social media personality Patricia Asieduaa, known as Mama Pat or Agradaa. He later apologized for what he called an "unfortunate act of indiscretion." Following this, he was summoned by the Presidency.

Government spokesperson Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that the matter is resolved after Mr. Gyamfi's apology. He said no further actions are needed beyond the apology and caution.

However, on Joy FM’s Top Story, Mr. Mohammed questioned the government's response. He argued that the caution lacked a formal investigative process.

He stated, “The action is not based on any fine base.” He emphasized that without an investigation, the presidency cannot convince them of its legitimacy.

Mr. Mohammed also challenged accepting an apology as sufficient action. He warned it could lead to impunity among public officials.

He asked rhetorically if future ministers could simply apologize for crimes and face no consequences.
