President Akufo-Addo celebrates Major General Anita Asmah’s historic UN appointment

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated Major General Anita Asmah on her appointment as Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF).

Major General Asmah, the first African woman to achieve this position, paid a courtesy call on the President to announce her new role and seek his guidance.

During the meeting, President Akufo-Addo praised her remarkable service, describing her achievement as a proud moment for Ghana and a milestone in women’s leadership.

He also celebrated 2024 as a historic year for Ghanaian women, citing Major General Asmah’s appointment and Shirley Ayorkor Botwe’s election as Commonwealth Secretary General.

The meeting was attended by Chief of Defence Staff Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah and National Security Adviser Brigadier General Okyere (Rtd).
