Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Presidential Spokesperson, has made a statement. He said that acting Goldbod CEO Sammy Gyamfi has been cautioned. No further action will be taken regarding the Agradaa dollar gift.
The Presidency confirmed that Sammy Gyamfi's public apology is accepted. President Mahama decided to close the matter with a stern warning.
During a press briefing at Jubilee House in Accra on May 14, Ofosu spoke about the situation. He said, “The Ag CEO of Goldbod has been cautioned. No further action is expected.”
He explained that there were concerns about a video involving Sammy Gyamfi and Agradaa. The Chief of Staff summoned Gyamfi to discuss what happened.
Gyamfi shared his side of the story during this meeting. President Mahama was out of the country at that time but was briefed later. The Presidency acknowledged Gyamfi’s immediate expression of regret.
Ofosu noted that President Mahama had previously launched a Code of Conduct. This included remedies for breaches, such as public apologies and cautions from government leaders.
The Chief of Staff cautioned Gyamfi after acknowledging his apology. They emphasized the importance of acting in ways that meet public expectations.
The Presidency believes no further action is necessary beyond this caution and apology. They value feedback and recognize Ghanaians expect high standards from public servants.
Sammy Gyamfi faced scrutiny after a video showed him gifting money to Nana Agradaa, a fetish priestess turned pastor. In the viral video, he was seen beside his white Range Rover with Agradaa.
After their conversation, he sat in his car and counted several US dollar notes. Agradaa insisted he give her all the money instead of just some.
She took all the cash from him and flaunted it to bystanders, saying she received dollars from him. Following this incident, Gyamfi issued a public apology for his actions.
He stated, “I have noticed the wave of criticisms against me.” He clarified that it was meant as a kind gesture to help someone in need.
Gyamfi expressed regret for not keeping this act private and acknowledged its unfortunate publicity.
