The government plans to build a 3.6-kilometre bridge over the River Afram. This project is in the Eastern Region and includes about 100 kilometres of new roads.
This initiative is part of President Mahama’s “Big Push” infrastructure agenda. It aims to boost agricultural productivity and stimulate economic growth. The goal is also to reduce poverty in the region.
Proposed roads include Mpraeso–Obomeng–Nkawkaw and Abooso–Mpaem routes. Other routes are Mpaem–Kwahu–Adawso, Feyiase–Kwahu Tafo, and Ekye Amanfrom–Takoratwene. Additional routes include Takoratwene–Dome, Takoratwene–Donkorkrom, and Donkorkrom–New Kyeiase.
Today, Minister for Roads and Highways Kwame Agbodza inspected the bridge site. He was accompanied by a team of engineers to assess key road corridors.
After the inspection, Agbodza spoke to the media in Donkorkrom. He assured residents that President Mahama is committed to developing the Afram Plains.
He stated that the completed bridge will connect Eastern, Ashanti, and Oti Regions. This connection will promote large-scale agriculture and attract agro-processing investments.
The project aims to enhance economic development and foster regional integration. It will also generate income through agriculture and other productive sectors.
