President John Mahama has announced a new National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving. This day will be observed on July 1st, which is traditionally Republic Day.
The President made this announcement during the inauguration of a planning committee. He emphasized that Ghana's peace and unity should not be taken for granted.
At the event, President Mahama said, “One of Ghana’s greatest blessings is our harmony.” He noted that Christians, Muslims, and traditionalists worship differently but work together as one people. This unity is a national treasure.
He quoted both the Qur'an and the Bible to highlight Ghana's religious tolerance. “In a world where religion often divides, we shine as an example,” he stated.
President Mahama referenced Sura Al-Hujurat Chapter 49:13 from the Qur’an and Romans 12:18 from the Bible. He stressed the importance of peaceful coexistence.
He declared July 1st as Ghana’s official National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving with conviction and unity.
The planning committee will be chaired by former minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah. He promised to make this day meaningful for all Ghanaians.
Mr. Afriyie Ankrah assured the President and citizens that they would work diligently. He acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to them.
He described the event as more than just another national occasion. It will be a spiritual journey for the nation focused on gratitude and unity in diversity.
The chairman also committed to broad engagement across the country. “We will consult widely and include everyone,” he said, emphasizing that this day belongs to all Ghanaians.
With hope, Mr. Afriyie expressed that Ghana could inspire others beyond its borders. “Our work can show that those who acknowledge God can achieve great things,” he concluded.
