President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) to enhance its efforts against human trafficking, emphasizing the need for comprehensive training and resource allocation to combat this pressing issue. During a meeting with GIS officials, he underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration and public awareness campaigns to address trafficking effectively. The President highlighted that human trafficking remains a significant concern in Ghana, affecting vulnerable populations, especially women and children.
To strengthen the fight against this crime, President Mahama called for more proactive measures from the GIS. He urged them to work closely with other relevant agencies and non-governmental organizations to develop robust strategies aimed at prevention, protection, and prosecution related to human trafficking cases. Additionally, he acknowledged the need for better data collection on trafficking incidents to inform policy decisions. By prioritizing these initiatives, the government aims to create a safer environment for all citizens and eradicate human trafficking in Ghana.
