President Mahama forgives Sammy Gyamfi over dollar gift controversy

President John Dramani Mahama has addressed the controversy involving Sammy Gyamfi. Gyamfi is the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board. A viral video showed him giving an undisclosed amount of U.S. dollars to evangelist Nana Agradaa.

The video caused significant backlash on social media and in politics. Civil society groups and opposition members called for Gyamfi’s dismissal. They raised concerns about possible violations of Ghana’s Foreign Exchange Act.

Despite the outrage, President Mahama will not take disciplinary action. Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that Gyamfi apologized publicly, and the President accepted it.

At a press briefing, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu described the incident as unfortunate but sufficient with just an apology. He noted that no further sanctions are necessary at this time.

However, he stressed that a strong warning was given to Gyamfi and all public servants. They must follow the Code of Conduct for appointees closely.

“The President expects officials to act in ways that inspire confidence,” Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said, emphasizing Mahama’s commitment to ethical leadership and accountability.
