President John Dramani Mahama has launched a new initiative. This program aims to equip young Ghanaians with practical skills for jobs and entrepreneurship.
The National Apprenticeship Programme will start this May. It will offer hands-on training opportunities across the country.
President Mahama stated that the program will use a 70% practical and 30% classroom model. This approach ensures participants gain technical skills and foundational knowledge.
Training will be available in all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs). It will also be accessible online through the National Youth Authority (NYA) platform.
“This initiative charts a bold path toward a future where every young Ghanaian can succeed,” said President Mahama at the launch event. He emphasized inclusivity, stating, “We are committed to leaving no one behind.”
To support this program, GHS 300 million has been allocated in the 2025 national budget. This funding will cover training costs, logistics, and support services. As a result, the program will be free for participants.
The National Apprenticeship Programme is part of a larger youth empowerment agenda. Its goal is to reduce unemployment and improve livelihoods through skills development and entrepreneurship.
