President John Dramani Mahama has pledged his administration’s support to traders affected by the January 2 fire at Accra’s Kantamanto Market, which destroyed hundreds of shops and caused devastating losses.

Meeting with the victims, President Mahama expressed sympathy and promised measures to prevent future incidents, including tighter market security, setting up fire service stations near major markets, and installing surveillance cameras to deter arson.

"We suspect the possibility of arsonists behind these fires," he noted, adding that security agencies have been tasked with addressing the issue.

The president also vowed to collaborate with traders to rebuild a modernized market and implement relief measures to cushion their financial losses.
