President Mahama regains control of hacked X account after crypto scam incident

President John Dramani Mahama has successfully regained control of his X (formerly Twitter) account after hackers hijacked it on Monday, March 17, 2025, to promote a fraudulent cryptocurrency scheme.

In a post on Tuesday, March 18, Mr. Mahama confirmed that his team had worked with X’s support team to restore access.

"My team has restored my account, working with the X support team. Thank you for your enquiries and offers to assist," he wrote.

The hackers used the account to promote a fake cryptocurrency project, "Solana Africa," falsely claiming it was an initiative by Mahama to facilitate free cross-border payments across Africa.

The scheme quickly collapsed, leaving unsuspecting victims with financial losses.

Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority (CSA) has since launched an investigation in collaboration with X’s security team to track the perpetrators and prevent future breaches.
