President John Dramani Mahama has revoked the appointments of all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs) and Assembly Members nationwide in a sweeping reform of local governance.
This directive, effective immediately, aligns with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by Act 940.
The announcement, made via a letter signed by Dr. Callistus Mahama, Executive Secretary to the President, was addressed to the Chief Director of the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralisation, and Rural Development.
Coordinating Directors of the affected assemblies will serve as acting chief executives until new appointments are made.
This move, one of President Mahama’s first actions since his January 7 inauguration, is aimed at restructuring local leadership to advance decentralisation and development goals.
