President Mahama to upgrade Ridge Hospital into full teaching hospital

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to upgrade the Greater Accra Regional Hospital. This hospital is commonly known as Ridge Hospital. He aims to transform it into a full teaching hospital.

Mahama spoke during his Greater Accra ‘Thank You Tour’ in Dodowa. He highlighted the urgent need for better healthcare outcomes in the region.

He stated, “We will aim to transform the quality outcomes for our healthcare.” The upgrade will enhance the hospital's capabilities and support specialist training. It will also reduce medical referrals outside the region.

The Ridge Hospital will affiliate with the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. This partnership will improve specialist training opportunities.

In addition to Ridge Hospital, Mahama plans to expand community-level healthcare. He wants to increase CHPS compounds in key peri-urban areas like Bortianor and Kpone. This expansion aims to make primary healthcare more accessible.

Mahama recognizes challenges faced by healthcare workers at CHPS facilities. He pledged to provide suitable accommodation for these workers. “We will include accommodation for health workers in all new CHIPS compounds,” he said.

His vision focuses on addressing urban and rural medical challenges in Greater Accra. It emphasizes sustainability, training, and accessibility in healthcare delivery.
