The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, announced discussions about relocating the Kumasi Central Prisons. This move aims to address congestion issues and improve living conditions for inmates and officers.
Dr. Amoakohene spoke to journalists after a recent inspection. He mentioned that the Interior Minister visited earlier for extensive discussions on prison challenges.
Decongesting the prison was a key topic in their talks. “We discussed plans to decongest the prison,” he said. This is essential for creating a better work environment.
The regional minister hinted at relocating the entire facility as a solution. “A possible relocation of the central prisons has been proposed,” he stated. This would provide adequate land space and help reduce congestion.
These discussions are still in the consultation stage. They are receiving attention from top leadership levels. “President Mahama will have a say on this matter,” Dr. Amoakohene added.
