President Mahama won’t be remote-controlled—Sammy Gyamfi defends judicial Picks

In response to criticisms of President John Dramani Mahama’s judicial appointments, Sammy Gyamfi spoke out. He is the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). Gyamfi criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for double standards and political deception.

During an appearance on Joy News’ Newsfile, Gyamfi accused the NPP of hypocrisy. He said, “The problem with the NPP is their duplicity and hypocrisy.” He finds this behavior nauseating in discussions about appointments.

His comments followed strong disapproval from the NPP regarding Justice Senyo Dzamefe's appointment. Dzamefe is a respected legal figure with a long career in Ghana’s judiciary. Gyamfi detailed Dzamefe’s credentials to counter what he sees as mischaracterization by opponents.

Justice Dzamefe served as a State Attorney from 1984 to 1987. He was a member of the Regional Tribunal from 1989 to 1996. He also served as a Circuit Court Judge, High Court Judge, and Court of Appeal Judge until 2025. Despite this, Gyamfi noted that NPP members claim Mahama committed a sacrilege by appointing him.

Gyamfi argued that the NPP's outrage lacks substance. He pointed out their history of overlooking more qualified legal professionals while in power. “You refused to promote these fine legal minds,” he said.

He accused them of promoting juniors instead for political gain. Gyamfi framed Mahama’s decisions as necessary corrections to past injustices. “We are delivering justice to victims of injustice,” he stated.

He emphasized that President Mahama would not bow to political pressure or outrage. “You can burn the sea if you don’t like it,” he declared. “President Mahama will not be remote-controlled by you.”
