Former Defence Minister Dominic Nitiwul has criticized President John Mahama for not using the presidential jet for official international travels, describing the decision as wasteful and offensive.
Speaking during a parliamentary session on January 22, Nitiwul argued that the jet, reportedly in good condition, should be utilized instead of resorting to commercial or private flights.
His comments followed news of President Mahama traveling to the UAE via commercial airline.
Minister-Designate for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, clarified that Mahama opted for commercial flights and dismissed claims of private jet rentals, pointing to previous misuse of the jet under Akufo-Addo.
Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson reiterated that Mahama has never rented private jets since taking office. The issue reignites debates over the appropriate use of Ghana’s presidential aircraft.
