Presidential jet unfit for use; undergoing 3-month ‘therapy’ – Omane Boamah confirms

Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah announced that the Presidential jet is unfit for use. It has been sent abroad for extensive maintenance.

In a Facebook post on May 23, Dr. Boamah explained that the aircraft is undergoing “three months of therapy.” This includes maintenance, repair, and overhaul work to make it “fairly usable.”

His statement was in response to claims from some New Patriotic Party (NPP) members. They suggested Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang chartered a private jet for her return to Ghana on May 22.

The Vice President had been on medically induced leave in the UK. Her travel sparked criticism from some NPP members questioning her mode of transport.

Dr. Boamah firmly rebutted these claims. He stated that the Akufo-Addo administration allowed the Presidential jet to deteriorate.

He wrote, “Let the NPP know this,” referring to their recent electoral defeats. He noted that the jet’s fuel tank was corroded, showing its poor condition.

Dr. Boamah emphasized that the current government inherited a damaged aircraft. He said, “The Presidential jet has been in the ‘hospital’ abroad… it is unfit for use presently.”
