President John Dramani Mahama has urged the National Peace Council to focus on the Bawku conflict.
He spoke during the inauguration of the Council's 13-member Governing Board at Jubilee House in Accra. President Mahama asked the Council to identify and address conflicts across Ghana.
The Board is chaired by Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu. They are tasked with bringing peace to Bawku, which has faced violence and chieftaincy disputes for years.
"Violence in Bawku has claimed many lives and displaced families," he said. "Chieftaincy conflicts are also common, requiring urgent attention from the National Peace Council."
He emphasized that maintaining Ghana's reputation as a peaceful nation is crucial. "These measures are essential for building an inclusive Ghana," he added.
Mahama noted that peace is more than just avoiding war. "It includes justice and fair access to opportunities for all."
