Stephane Miezan is the President of the Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GNCCI). He says the private sector wants to work with the government. Their goal is to boost production and expand Ghana’s exports.
For this collaboration to succeed, deeper engagement is needed. There must be shared goals and mutual commitment between policymakers and businesses.
Mr. Miezan spoke at the launch of the 5th Chamber Business Awards in Accra. The theme was “Revitalising Ghana’s Development Agenda Through Strategic Public-Private Collaboration.”
He noted that this year’s awards would recognize excellence and promote structured public-private collaboration. The awards celebrate Ghanaian businesses that excelled during challenging times.
The President highlighted opportunities in value addition, industrial infrastructure, digitalization, and entrepreneurship. He mentioned that Ghana's economic potential remains underutilized due to structural issues in local production.
It is time for a results-driven partnership between government and business. This partnership should aim to reduce production costs and support scalable enterprises.
“We must embrace an industrial transformation,” he said. This will position Ghana as a manufacturing hub within ECOWAS-ETLS and AfCFTA frameworks.
Recently, Ghana has seen improvements in macroeconomic performance. Indicators like inflation, exchange rates, and reserve holdings show signs of recovery.
However, these developments must be viewed amid global economic uncertainty. Slower global growth may affect resilience based on local positioning.
“This is why we believe now is the time to revitalize Ghana’s development agenda,” Mr. Miezan added. Strategic collaboration between public and private sectors is essential.
Mr. Prince Ackuaku chairs the Planning Committee for the awards. He stated that these awards have become a prestigious platform for recognizing business excellence in Ghana.
He emphasized that inclusive growth cannot rely solely on government efforts. Businesses play a vital role in job creation, innovation, and social development.
“These awards are about setting benchmarks,” he said. They encourage competitiveness and inspire partnerships for collective progress.
Mr. Ackuaku expressed hope that this year's program would inspire new thinking in public-private sector engagement.
