Probe into Nii Armah Quaye's income attempt to sabotage him - Coalition of GaDangme Pressure Groups alleges

A group called the Coalition of GaDangme Pressure Groups has criticized the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). They claim the GRA's investigation into businessman Richard Nii Armah Quaye's personal income tax is an attempt to sabotage his businesses.

The group's leader, Nii Ayitey Armah, issued a statement. He questioned the sudden interest in Mr. Quaye’s tax status. Mr. Quaye is the founder of Bills Micro-Credit.

The group respects the GRA's role in ensuring tax compliance. However, they find the timing and nature of this investigation concerning.

They stated that Mr. Quaye has always operated transparently and complied with tax regulations. The group noted that no concerns were raised until after his 40th birthday celebration.

They believe this scrutiny seems aimed at undermining successful GaDangme entrepreneurs. The group rejected any form of targeted harassment disguised as regulation.

They urged the GRA to act fairly and respect due process. They warned that any unfair treatment would be legally challenged.

Mr. Quaye remains committed to cooperating with authorities but will defend his reputation. If ulterior motives drive this probe, they are ready to take legal action.

On March 24, 2025, the GRA began an Income Tax Assessment on Mr. Quaye. This audit aims to check his level of tax compliance as a businessman.

The GRA denied freezing Mr. Quaye's financial accounts during this process. Sources say discussions have started for him to settle all tax obligations.

Additionally, the GRA assessed import duty on Mr. Quaye's Bugatti Chiron, which he paid promptly. This contradicts reports claiming his accounts were frozen.

According to the GRA, this is a routine exercise for clients with good tax records. After assessment recommendations, Mr. Quaye must fulfill obligations on imported goods.

A source mentioned that this development positively affects both parties' relationship as Ghana seeks to increase tax revenue this year.

Mr. Quaye celebrated his 40th birthday at Black Star Square in Accra with a grand event. The star-studded celebration featured local and international dignitaries and business elites.

Dubbed #RNAQ40, it attracted influential personalities like Dr Osei Kwame Despite and Dr Ernest Ofori Sarpong. Their presence highlighted Mr. Quaye’s connections within Ghana’s business community.

Government officials and industry leaders also attended to honor his achievements over the years. Performances by Nigeria's Davido and Ghana's Sarkodie thrilled guests while Stonebwoy energized the crowd with Afro-dancehall music.
