Processes to remove Chief Justice were constitutional—Stan Dogbe to protesters

Deputy Chief of Staff (Operations) Stan Dogbe stated that the suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo follows Ghana’s Constitution.

His comments came during a protest organized by the NPP. Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin and others delivered a petition to Parliament on May 5.

Mr. Dogbe addressed the protesters and emphasized the legality of the process. He said, “The processes to remove the Chief Justice are entirely constitutional.” He noted that every step followed Article 146 of the 1992 Constitution.

He reassured the public about transparency in this matter. “This is not a hurried or covert action,” he explained. All relevant bodies, including the Council of State, were consulted.

Mr. Dogbe highlighted that the Chief Justice had a chance to respond. He urged calm and confidence in Ghana’s institutions.

“We understand your passion for this petition,” he said. However, he asked everyone to respect the constitutional framework. He concluded by urging people to let the legal process unfold, assuring them that justice will prevail.
