Renowned economist and governance expert, Professor Stephen Adei, has assessed President John Dramani Mahama's performance. He noted that Mahama had an impressive start in his first 120 days.
However, Prof. Adei cautioned against excessive praise. He highlighted the risks of over-celebrating early achievements.
“We must be very careful over praising John in 120 days,” he said. He suggested that enthusiasm for Mahama’s initial performance should be tempered.
He referenced former President Akufo-Addo's first term, stating he performed well initially. “Everybody’s hopes were dashed… Akufo-Addo’s second term did so badly,” he added. This underscores the need for sustained performance in governance.
Despite his caution, Prof. Adei acknowledged Mahama's progress in his early months. “Anybody who is objective would say he has done very well,” he stated during a JoyNews interview on May 7.
He praised Mahama for key milestones within his 120-day contract. These included significant policy reversals and downsizing of government. He also noted the reopening of long-demanded criminal investigations.
According to Prof. Adei, these actions showed a decisive approach and commitment to critical issues facing the country.
