Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi pleads not guilty in $2 million sky train scandal

Professor Ameyaw-Akumfi, the former Board Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has pleaded not guilty. He faces charges of causing financial loss to the state, misusing public funds, and conspiracy.

His plea was entered on May 26, 2025. He had missed two previous court dates due to medical emergencies.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi is on trial with Solomon Asamoah, the former CEO of GIIF. They are accused of transferring $2 million in state funds to Africa Investor Holdings.

This transfer was meant for a proposed Sky Train project. Prosecutors claim it happened without proper authorization or due diligence.

The prosecution argues that this deal violated legal and administrative protocols. This led to significant financial losses for the state.

Both men deny any wrongdoing and will present their defense during the trial.

The Sky Train initiative was once seen as a major urban transport project. However, it now faces scrutiny over its financial viability and transparency.
