Prosecute agents using kids to beg – Child Rights International

Bright Appiah, Executive Director of Child Rights International, has made a call to action. He urged security agencies to prosecute adults who exploit children for begging. His comments came after over 2,000 street children and their guardians were arrested. This was part of a major effort to address streetism.

In an interview with Channel One Newsroom, Appiah praised the crackdown. However, he stressed that arrests alone are not sufficient. Legal measures must be enforced to hold accountable those who put children on the streets.

He emphasized the need for child protection in addressing streetism. Sustainable impact will come from enforcing laws and improving collaboration among institutions.

Appiah pointed out that the Beggars Act allows for prosecution of adults involved in child begging. The state can take action against both adults who beg and those who enable child begging. These options are available for authorities to consider in their efforts.
