Protect authority from political interference - NSA staff union urges govt

National Service Authority National Service Authority

The National Service Authority Staff Union (NASASU) has strongly denounced what it describes as ongoing political interference in the operations of the National Service Authority, particularly concerning staff recruitment and transfers in the Western Region.

In a statement issued on Friday, April 11, the union expressed grave concern over attempts by political party affiliates to override the Authority’s internal processes.

“We wish to reiterate to the general public that the National Service Authority is a public institution under the Public Services Commission. Our recruitments and transfers are done in line with our approved Scheme of Service, and in accordance with the Public Services Commission Act and the provisions of the Constitution under Article 195,” the statement read.

NASASU reminded the public that employment and staff movement within the Authority are governed by the National Service Authority Act, 2024 (Act 1119), the Public Services Commission Act, 1994 (Act 482), and the 1992 Constitution.

Amid growing tensions in the Western Region, the union urged the youth to exercise restraint and allow management to operate without external pressure.

Furthermore, NASASU called on the Management of the Authority to uphold professionalism by adhering strictly to legal and administrative procedures. It also appealed to the government to shield the National Service Authority from political manipulation.

“We want to advise the political parties to refrain from using the National Service Authority as a tool for advancing party interests and to respect the independence of the Authority,” the statement concluded.
