The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is calling for better security for journalists. This applies to those reporting on illegal small-scale mining in the country.
Mr. Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, the GJA President, made this statement at a press conference. The event took place in Accra on Wednesday. It focused on national issues and media freedom challenges.
Mr. Dwumfour noted that current measures against 'galamsey' do not include journalist protection. These measures are being implemented by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
He emphasized that the media plays a vital role in fighting galamsey. Journalists help uncover illegal small-scale mining activities that may be hidden from the government.
