Public debt stock rises slightly to $49.5bn despite cedi gains

Ghana's total public debt has increased slightly to $49.5 billion as of March 2025. This is up from $49.4 billion in February. The rise occurred despite the local currency appreciating against the US dollar.

In cedi terms, the debt is GH₵769.4 billion. This amount represents 55% of Ghana's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The external portion of the debt also rose, from GH¢768.1 billion to GH¢769.4 billion. However, there was a decrease in the domestic component of the debt stock. It fell from GH¢328 billion to GH¢326.9 billion.
