Ghana’s 68th Independence Day was marked with a scaled-down ceremony at Jubilee House, drawing mixed reactions from citizens regarding the government’s cost-cutting measures and its early performance in office.
President John Dramani Mahama explained that the state saved 95% of the estimated GH¢20 million cost, spending only GH¢1 million instead. This move was largely welcomed, with many emphasizing the need for financial prudence amid economic challenges.
A section of the public commended the President’s decision, citing ministerial restructuring and budget cuts as positive steps.
Others, however, expressed concerns over certain government decisions, including the handling of corruption-related cases.
While some believe it is too early to judge the administration’s overall performance, many are watching closely to see if the promises of economic recovery and governance reforms will be fulfilled.
