Former Auditor General Daniel Yao Domelevo has urged the current Auditor General, Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, to publish a monthly list of public officers who declare their assets.
His request comes after the government denied media reports about high-profile officials from the Mahama administration. These reports claimed that several officials failed to submit their asset declaration forms. Specifically, nine out of 55 ministers and deputy ministers missed the March 31 deadline. This situation defies legal requirements and a directive from the President.
The government has strongly refuted these claims. They accuse the media of misreporting the facts.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr. Domelevo emphasized that regular publication would promote transparency and compliance. He stated, “There is nothing wrong with the Auditor General updating us month by month on public officials' assets.” He added that no law prohibits this practice.
Mr. Domelevo clarified that while specific declarations should remain confidential, a monthly list would be beneficial. He expressed hope that the President would address issues related to his appointees’ behavior.
