The Western Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has announced new security plans. They will deploy personnel to patrol the Bonsa River in Tarkwa-Nsuaem municipality.
This decision follows coordinated operations by several agencies. The Western Naval Command, Takoradi Air Force Base, and Ghana Police Service worked together. Their goal was to stop illegal mining activities, known as galamsey, in the region.
During these operations, five excavators were seized. Eight pumping machines were destroyed. Additionally, one tricycle and one motorcycle used for illegal mining were confiscated on Thursday. These actions took place at Asuoso, Bonsawire, and Bonsa.
Joseph Nelson is the Western Regional Minister and REGSEC Chairman. He led another operation that resulted in three arrests along the Bonsa River. The arrested individuals are Joshua Boateng, 20; Joshua Kyere Ishmael, 24; and Godwin Bagbetor, 29.
