REGSEC to demolish structures on Weija, Dansoman ramsar sites today

The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) will demolish illegal structures today. This operation targets buildings on the Weija and Dansoman Ramsar sites.

President John Dramani Mahama recently toured Ramsar sites in Accra. He warned that structures on protected lands would be removed.

At the 2025 National Eid-ul-Fitr celebration, he expressed concern about land encroachment. He noted it contributes to flooding and property loss. The President cautioned against illegal construction on waterways.

The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Linda Ocloo, will lead the demolition team. Security officers will assist in overseeing the exercise. The goal is to clear unauthorized structures and restore natural watercourses. This initiative aims to reduce flooding risks during the rainy season.
