The Greater Accra Regional Security Council (REGSEC) will start demolishing unauthorized structures. This will happen along waterways in Tema, Klagon, and the Sakumo Ramsar site. The demolition begins on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
This action is part of a larger effort to restore natural watercourses. It aims to reduce flooding and enforce environmental regulations in the region.
Greater Accra Regional Minister Linda Ocloo met with Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). She warned that those responsible for illegal developments would be arrested.
Ocloo stated that a dedicated task force will be present after the demolitions. This team will work to prevent further encroachment in the affected areas.
“We will continue with the demolition exercise at Sakumono and Tema,” she said. “In some places where we demolished, they have rebuilt structures.” She emphasized that all unauthorized structures would be removed.
“After the demolition, we will have a task force working 24 hours,” she added. This team will help protect the area from future violations.
