Ramadan: Seidu Agongo renovates Korle Bu Child Emergency Unit for patients’ comfort

Businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Seidu Agongo is renovating the Child Emergency Out-Patient Department (OPD) at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra. He built and donated this facility to the hospital in 2018.

As part of his Ramadan Donation Initiative, Mr. Agongo is repainting the OPD block. He is also ensuring that all air conditioning units work properly.

On Facebook, he explained his goal. He wants to create a better environment for mothers, babies, and hospital staff. "I am ensuring that all air conditioning units are fully operational," he said.

Mr. Agongo constructed the 30-bed block for GH¢857,000 and handed it over in 2019. His motivation came after a visit to the hospital in 2017.

During that visit, he saw poor conditions for newborns and their mothers. Four babies were sharing one cot meant for one baby. Many mothers and infants faced overcrowded conditions.

When a staff member jokingly asked if he would build a new block, Mr. Agongo took it seriously. He later contacted the unit to formalize his offer.

Reflecting on his philanthropy, he said giving impacts all of Allah’s creations. His latest act shows his commitment to improving healthcare for vulnerable groups, especially children and mothers.

He aims to ensure that the facility serves its purpose in a dignified and comfortable way.
