Randy Abbey is expected to receive his appointment letter this week as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), ending weeks of speculation about his next role.
Initially rumored for a Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) position, Abbey’s appointment to COCOBOD follows Edward Bawa's confirmation as GNPC CEO.
This development comes after Joseph Boahen Aidoo’s resignation, citing a government directive to dissolve State-Owned Enterprise boards.
Aidoo, who served COCOBOD for eight years, expressed gratitude to former President Nana Akufo-Addo and pledged support for a smooth transition.
His tenure under the COCOBOD Law (PNDCL 81) was expected to run until July 2025, but he stepped down early to facilitate stakeholder engagements.
COCOBOD remains pivotal to Ghana’s cocoa industry and economic growth.
