Dr. Edward Omane Boamah is the Defence Minister. He is also the Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 polls. He has called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-run elections in disputed polling stations of Ablekuma North.
His appeal was made in a Facebook post on May 5. This follows a petition from Parliament’s Minority Caucus. They are demanding police intervention due to delays in declaring final results.
In his statement, Dr. Omane Boamah emphasized transparency and accountability. He stressed the need for strict adherence to electoral laws to resolve this issue.
He urged the EC, led by Jean Mensa, to ensure fairness. He suggested re-running elections in contested polling stations. The EC currently lacks necessary pink sheets to confirm results.
He warned against repeating mistakes from the SALL elections debacle. Four traditional areas were denied parliamentary representation for years due to actions by the NPP and EC.
Dr. Omane Boamah highlighted that every vote counts and every voice matters. He underlined the importance of inclusive democratic processes.
The call for a re-run comes amid rising tensions over election results. The Ablekuma North seat has been vacant for several months due to these unresolved disputes.
