Reflecting on the past, resetting for the future: A call to action

As we celebrate May Day 2025, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission (FWSC) congratulates all Ghanaian workers. Your contributions to national development are invaluable.

This year’s observance is especially significant. It honors the hard work and resilience of workers. It also encourages collective reflection and renewal.

After fifteen years of the Single Spine Pay Policy (SSPP), it’s time to pause. We need to assess our journey and reset future compensation and working conditions in Ghana.

Public sector workers have supported the FWSC throughout this process. Together, we have pursued a fair and transparent pay system. Your collaboration has strengthened Ghana’s public sector.

We appreciate your commitment during this journey.

This May Day, we focus on “Resetting Pay and Working Conditions in Ghana: The Role of Stakeholders.” The SSPP has achieved many milestones, but our economy requires a bold approach now.

Ghana is ready for a transformative change with an Independent Emoluments Commission. This initiative will reset how public sector salaries are determined.

The Commission will create a comprehensive framework for remuneration. It will ensure fairness, transparency, competitiveness, and sustainability in public sector pay.

It aims to address ongoing disparities despite efforts under the SSPP.

As we begin this reset, we reaffirm our commitment to inclusiveness and dialogue. Your support is crucial as we navigate this new chapter together.

Together, we can build a compensation system that rewards productivity while promoting unity and economic progress.

The FWSC salutes all Ghanaian workers across sectors and regions. Your dedication drives Ghana’s progress, and your aspirations must guide public policy reforms.

We thank organized labor, civil society organizations, and stakeholders for their partnership in advocating for fairness.

We encourage all partners to unite with us in establishing the Independent Emoluments Commission successfully.

On this important occasion, we say "Ayekoo" to all Ghanaian workers. Your sacrifices lay the foundation for a brighter future. Let us rise together to improve pay and working conditions for a stronger Ghana.
