Reforms In NPP: Adutwum Proposes Expansion Of Electoral College

Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum is the former Education Minister. He plans to contest for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primary next year. He has suggested changes to the party's delegate system.

Dr. Adutwum believes the current system excludes loyal supporters from voting. He stated that many faithful party members lack a voice in leadership selection. Speaking on Nhyira FM, he emphasized that these supporters deserve a say.

He proposed allowing all card-carrying members to vote in internal elections. This change would enhance democracy and reduce dissatisfaction with candidate selections.

Dr. Adutwum mentioned he was contacted by Professor Mike Aaron Ocquaye. Professor Ocquaye leads a committee investigating why the NPP lost the 2024 elections. Dr. Adutwum hopes his suggestions will be considered during this review.

He stressed including long-standing party members, especially those active at polling stations, in future elections. He cited examples from his constituency where dedicated members cannot vote due to their non-delegate status.

He encouraged NPP supporters not to lose hope and assured them of a stronger comeback if reforms are adopted. Dr. Adutwum called for unity as leadership works towards future challenges.
