Reliable electricity key to 24-hour economy – Asantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has called for investor support in Ghana’s energy sector. He highlighted its importance for a successful 24-hour economy.

He spoke during a meeting with Dream Power Africa on May 21 at Manhyia Palace. The Asantehene emphasized that reliable electricity is vital for national development.

He said, “Currently, the government has been talking about a 24-hour economy.” He added that energy must be available in rural areas for success. Industries also need it to operate efficiently.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) made the 24-hour economy a key promise before the 2024 elections. This initiative aims to boost economic activity across various sectors. It encourages businesses and public institutions to operate around the clock.

President John Dramani Mahama supports this initiative as part of industrialization efforts. He sees it as a solution to youth unemployment in Ghana. The policy will be voluntary and backed by legal frameworks.

Although not yet implemented, President Mahama appointed Augustus “Goosie” Tanoh as an advisor on this initiative. Tanoh will lead the rollout of the 24-hour economy and export development plans.
