Remain calm, steadfast and law-abiding – Bawumia to NPP supporters

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is the 2024 NPP presidential candidate. He urged NPP members and supporters to stay calm and law-abiding. This comes amid rising political intimidation.

His comments follow an attempted arrest of Reverend John Ntim Fordjour. Fordjour is the MP for Assin South and a member of the Defence and Interior Committee. The attempted arrest was carried out by operatives from the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB).

Dr. Bawumia visited Fordjour after the incident. He noted that Fordjour was “in high spirit and undaunted” despite the raid on his home.

In a message to party loyalists, Dr. Bawumia said, “I charge all Party faithful to remain calm, steadfast, and law-abiding.” He emphasized that the NPP is committed to rule of law and democratic principles.

He called on President John Dramani Mahama to control security operatives. He warned against politicizing state institutions for harassment or intimidation.

Dr. Bawumia stated that security forces should not be used as political tools. He described their actions as a “descent into lawlessness and fear.”

He stressed the need for professionalism in Ghana’s security services. Dr. Bawumia reassured NPP supporters that the party will oppose abuse of power.

He affirmed their commitment to democracy and justice in Ghana.
