The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) is monitoring a 21-day ultimatum. This ultimatum was issued to all Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in Greater Accra. They must remove unauthorized billboards along road medians and highways.
Abraham Amaliba, the NRSA Managing Director, shared that 29 MMDAs received compliance notices. These notices direct them to dismantle billboards that endanger pedestrian safety or distract drivers.
On the Citi Breakfast Show on April 30, 2024, Amaliba emphasized the NRSA's commitment to legal action. He stated they would sue any assembly that does not comply within the deadline.
"I have written compliance notices to 29 municipal and district assemblies," he said. "They are responsible for licensing advertising companies and erecting billboards."
He added that if they do not act within 21 days, legal enforcement will follow. This directive aims to improve road and pedestrian safety in Accra. It responds to public complaints about billboards obstructing visibility near footbridges designed for safety.
